The Pacific Division of AAAS is pleased to announce its 93^rd annual meeting, to be held at the Boise Center on the Grove (Boise Convention Center) in Boise, Idaho 24 – 27 June 2012. The meeting is co-located with the 67^th Northwest Regional Meeting (NORM 12) of the American Chemical Society (sponsored by the Snake River Section of ACS). The meeting is co-sponsored by Boise State University and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society. Membership in AAAS or its affiliated societies is not required to participate in the meeting.

All scientists, as well as graduate and undergraduate students, are invited to present their research results at the meeting, either orally or as posters. Persons paying the registration fee may attend all scientific sessions as well as participate in many other activities (field trips require advance registration and payment of additional fees). Dr. Owen M. McDougal, Boise State University, is chairing the local program committee for the Pacific Division. Co-chairs of the local program committee are Drs. Kristen Mitchell and Cheryl Jorcyk, Boise State University.

The theme for this year's meeting is Science Informing Outcomes.

Meeting Rooms

This year's technical sessions will be held in the Boise Convention Center (the Boise Center on the Grove). Meeting rooms will be equipped with computers running PowerPoint and computer projectors. Speakers requiring other equipment, such as a 35mm slide projector, an overhead projector, or a T.V. must make their requests known at the time of abstract submission. Such equipment will be provided if available, and may incur an expense for the presenter.

Presentation Dates, Times and Rooms

The meeting rooms and presentation time schedule will be published in the "Program with Abstracts" issue of the Proceedings (vol. 31, part 1), which will be provided to all meeting registrants at registration. Speakers will be able to download the schedule, which shows their day, time and place to present, from this and from the AAAS Pacific Division homepage on approximately 25 May 2012.

Poster Sessions

Each poster will be assigned a display space of48" W x 48" H (roughly 1.2 m x 1.2 m). Posters will be grouped by discipline and subject matter. Each presenter will be given at least four hours for poster display, although more time may be available. Presenters should set up their posters no later than 15 minutes before the beginning of their presentation session and are expected to be available to discuss their work for at least one hour while their poster is on display. Posters should be removed within 15 minutes of the close of the session. Student posters will be judged for Awards of Excellence. Therefore, students must be available for questions until all of the judges have seen their posters.

The AAAS Pacific Division is pleased to offer a number of programs to encourage students to attend its annual meetings and to help further their career goals. These include:

For Teachers, K - 14

The AAAS Pacific Division strives to offer symposia and workshops specifically organized to meet teachers' classroom needs and to introduce them to new and exciting materials and techniques. Teachers K–12 and Community College who plan to attend the meetings may pre-register at a reduced rate. Also, the first twenty K – 14 teachers to register in advance for the meeting and request it will receive a $75.00 stipend. No stipends will be available for teachers who register on-site.

The Division’s Science and Technology Education Section seeks teachers' participation in its sessions to share their knowledge and innovative methodologies with colleagues. To this end, contributed paper and poster sessions are being planned. Teachers attending the annual meeting can receive, upon request, a certificate of attendance from the Pacific Division.
